Long Island Scholarship in Memory of John Cifichiello, GABELLI ’68

The Long Island Scholarship in Memory of John Cifichiello, GABELLI ’68 exists because of the generosity of many local alumni. It is funded through contributions from chapter members and various activities run by the chapter during the year, with assistance from the University's Office of Alumni Relations. This fund was established in 1991 to encourage high school students from Long Island to apply to Fordham and to provide the academically outstanding recipients with four years of tuition assistance. When selecting a recipient, the University:

  • looks for an incoming first-year student from Long Island who is enrolling in a Fordham University undergraduate school
  • assesses both financial need and academic merit (to be determined by the Office of Financial Aid)

"I wish to sincerely thank you for providing me and countless other Fordham students the opportunity to pursue our studies at such a prestigious university.  I can only speak for myself, but in my case, Fordham likely would not have been an option for college had I not received such a generous scholarship package. In my brief time at Fordham so far, I can already sense the transformative power the school has on its students. I feel blessed to have ended up in such a great situation. If not for your generous contributions, my life could look very different, likely for the worse. I think it further speaks to the Fordham culture that members of the larger Fordham community so willingly go out of their way to help young scholars they don’t know. Thank you very much for thinking of me and the other students you help."

"At Fordham, I am one of 45 candidates for the Marketing Scholars program, which is aimed at providing unique, high-profile opportunities to advance marketing careers through visits to leading advertising agencies and exposure to industry-leading professionals. I am also an active member of the Fordham Marketing Association. In terms of work, my classes and professors at Fordham enabled me to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for an internship. This past summer, I was a marketing and e-commerce intern for the fashion company Adrianna Papell. During this experience, I was exposed to the fast-paced fashion industry through product- detail photoshoots, data analytics, and content creation for social media. Without Fordham and scholarships like the University Club of Long Island, none of the opportunities I previously discussed would be available to me. For this, again, I want to express my gratitude. You have helped me get one step closer to future success both at Fordham and post-graduation."

"Because of your financial support, I am able to continue studying at Fordham University and not have to withdraw from my education. I chose to attend Fordham University because I always had dreamed of going to college in New York City and I knew I wanted to study business. Fordham’s Gabelli school of Business has a very reputable name, and someone close to me has graduated from the GSB and still continues to speak very highly of it, which ultimately led me to make the decision to attend. I am looking forward to taking marketing courses and fashion courses, as I am planning to minor in Fashion! I have joined a few clubs to help grow my interests like the Marketing club, Fashion for Philanthropy, and Consulting club. Again, thank you so much for your support as it allows me to achieve my educational goals and do what I’ve always dreamed of."
