12:15 p.m. Lunch Storico Restaurant at the New-York Historical Society

Event Details:

Join us for a much-anticipated new exhibit at the New-York Historical Society, "Black Citizenship in the Age of Jim Crow." This exhibit explores the struggle for full citizenship and racial equality that unfolded in the 50 years after the Civil War. Leading our tour will be one of the museum's docents.

Opening to mark the 150th anniversary of the ratification of the 14th Amendment, the exhibition is organized chronologically from the end of the Civil War to the end of World War I and highlights the central role played by African Americans in advocating for their rights. It also examines the depth and breadth of opposition to black advancement. Art, artifacts, photographs, and media will help visitors explore these transformative decades in American history and understand their continuing relevance today.

After the tour we'll eat lunch at Storico, a restaurant located at the museum.

Joining us for this event is Fordham's own Dr. Sarah Celentano, GSAS ’07. Dr. Celentano received her first master's degree from Fordham's Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and her second master's degree, as well as her doctorate, from the University of Texas at Austin. She is the Chairman's Council Manager for the Development Department at the New-York Historical Society. She will share her expertise with us throughout the day.

The price is $65 per person, which includes the tour and lunch.

An email reminder with meeting details will be sent to all registrants one week prior to the event. Please reach out if you have any questions, and we hope to see you there!
