Esteemed guest speakers Sr. Vassa Larin and Sergei Chapnin visit The Russia Question on Friday, April 5th at noon for a special session on Navalny’s legacy. Hosted by Michael Ossorgin.

About the Panelists:

Sergei Chapnin serves as Director of Communications at the Orthodox Christian Studies Center of Fordham University and is Chief Editor of "Дары" (The Gifts), an almanac of contemporary Christian culture (in Russian). Previously, he held various roles within the Moscow Patriarchate, including Executive Editor of the Church Herald newspaper and The Journal of the Moscow Patriarchate, Deputy Chief Editor of the Moscow Patriarchate Publishing House, and Secretary of the Church, State, and Society Commission of the Inter-Conciliar Board of the Russian Orthodox Church. He has also taught as a senior lecturer at Saint Tikhon Orthodox Humanitarian University, Faculty of Theology, and curated exhibitions on contemporary Christian art. A prolific author, Chapnin's articles and commentary have been featured in numerous national and international media outlets, including Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, BBC, and The Economist. He is the author of two books in Russian: "The Church in Post-Soviet Russia: Revival, 'Quality of Faith,' and Dialog with the Society" (2013) and "The Church Revival: A Summary" (2018).

Sister Dr. Vassa Larin is a Russian Orthodox liturgiologist and ryassofor nun. She is host of the online catechetical programs, Coffee with Sister Vassa, and author of many scholarly articles, a monograph on Byzantine Hierarchichal Liturgy (Orientalia Christiana Analecta 286, 2008), Reflections with Morning Coffee (Xenophon Press 2022), Lent with Sister Vassa (Xenophon Press 2022), HealthyFast Lenten Guidebook, and, most recently, Praying in Time. The Hours & Days in Step with Orthodox Christian Tradition (Wipf & Stock 2023), a book now translated into Italian, Greek and German. Sister Vassa’s online-mission includes a daily Newsletter (with a brief reflection on Scripture, now available also in audio form on Sellfy.com), weekday audio-podcasts called “Monday Morning Coffee” (on the practical applications of the liturgical calendar and Scripture), a video-course on Divine Liturgy (available on YouTube), and over 300 other YouTube videos on Orthodox Theology, Tradition, and modern-day issues of Orthodox Canon Law and church life.
